Mirror Mirror on the wall… in the bedroom or not at all

Coined as the “aspirin” of Feng Shui, mirrors support many Feng Shui cures, but like anything used in excess can lead to a proverbial overdose. A former client read somewhere that mirrors brought in light so given her challenging life situation, covered every wall in her living room with decorative mirrors. Walking in felt like being in a Fun House with its visual distortions reflecting her view of what was happening in her life. Her surroundings bombarded with mirrors supported her unhealthy perspective.
There are many schools of Feng Shui and there is merit in all but one distinction with the BTB tradition is the use of mirrors in the bedroom. While some schools purport mirrors will keep you up at night or startle you at seeing your reflection at waking, we mindfully place mirrors when helpful. The mind is a powerful thing. Whatever meaning you attach to a mirror activates its purpose. Placed intentionally, they can be effective adjustments or cures even in the bedroom. A mirror at the foot of your bed can support your inspiration and direction with career or life path. A round mirror in the bedroom also reflects relational commitment and fidelity.

When using mirrors for Feng Shui adjustments, energetically clear your mirrors before placing them in your home. Choose a high quality mirror without imperfections. As charming as an antique weathered mirror can be, I don’t use them for Feng Shui adjustments. And while some Feng Shui traditions shun having mirrors in the bedroom when one avoids mirrors, my question might be what are you hiding. Good Feng Shui begins with yourself. An honest look in the mirror may be the first step to change the course of your life and happiness.

More subtle yet powerful transcendental uses of mirrors in Feng Shui can be a discreet one-inch round mirror placed on a permanently shut window or door to let the qi flow through. Or a convex mirror to energetically push out a wall where your home has a missing piece in a specific gua, or to energetically pull the head of household’s bedroom to the back of the house placing them in command. Using transcendental cures can transform a household that is struggling with Wealth issues, assist resolving a dysfunctional marriage, or rebalance the parent/child dynamic from children who are ruling the roost. In each case I have witnessed Feng Shui adjustments assist in resolving such challenges.
Books are great resources outlining suggestions yet as in the case of to mirror or not to mirror, one book might contradict another. Like my client mentioned above, without objectively stepping back to see the full picture with expertise to interpret and adjust nuances, one might enforce the malady one is trying to remedy. And books don’t talk. Contact me to have a conversation and look at your home, a mirror of your life, to strategically make subtle yet profound changes and open your life to a new chapter.
